One of the most important personalities of this neighborhood in its fundation was Alejandro Casaca, a bogotano who came to live in Monteria. The neighborhood was named Los Laureles because there were a lot of these trees in front of houses.
The neighborhood is located north of the city, between the shopping mall Alamedas del Sinú and the bars and nightclubs of the 41st street. The neighborhood has about 1228 inhabitants on average.
Currently the most significant representatives of the neighborhood are: Alberto Sofán, Hipólito Quintero and the teacher Gómez, being representatives, leaders and spokesmen of community organization and Gustavo Agámez, a baseball player of the region.
